The Bus Ride (Part 2)

The Bus Ride ( Part 2 )

On a bus ride from town to town
I took a back seat and sat down
Next to an older gentleman
We said hello and shook my hand
He introduced himself but I already knew his name
He was sitting next to the window pane
At first he was silent just admiring the view
Than out of nowhere words he began to speak a few
He said he can't believe where the time has gone
At 82 years old he don't have very long
He said he recalls when he was a little boy
The spark in his mothers eyes full or endless joy
First dates and first jobs he began to grow a smile
The day he brought his first car and drove it down Menzies mile
He said he was an impatient young man who grew up too fast
Tearing up life's highways thinking if your not first your last
How he never stopped to just watch a sunrise
Or the fact mistakes were lessons that made him wise
How he never forgave his father for all his sins
Then he spoke about his mother with a certain grin
He said a man loves his mother but rarely tells her
As all that really mattered was we were together
Pets he'd lost and loved so very dearly
How unfaithful people had made him weary
Now fast forward I'm an old man with only memories
With a satisfied mind full of priceless Imageries
He went on to talk about the lovers he had
All the moments he has experience through the good and bad
How stupid he was about the little things in life
How he never had kids or the fact he never took a wife
Lost opportunities that shaped his world
Or how he never said "I love you" to a girl
Business acquaintances who had done him wrong
Or how in this life he just felt he didn't belong
He took his hand and put it on my shoulder and said
Make sure you dot your i's and cross your t's and its ok to be scared
Don't leave this life with regrets or any unfinished business
Is my only advice and always conduct yourself with subtleness
Live in the moment cause it's all we have right now
No matter how bad things may get never throw in the towel
Life is a beautiful gift that you shouldn't take for granted
It took him 82 years to find this out and it was all he wanted
He went on to say he never regretted the life he had
For all who he was and had been he was silently glad
He met extraordinary people in extraordinary moments
How they all In some way guided him throughout his life's events
Night time came and we kept talking while on this road
I began to tire and little by little my blinking slowed
I swear it had only felt like a mere second
As I awoke before the next stop beckoned
As I wiped my eyes the old man's seat was bare
As I searched the bus I couldn't spot him anywhere
There was nothing left behind to say he was even real
I was in total shock I didn't know what to feel
How could this have occurred has puzzled me since
There's no way he could have passed over me without a wince
For the next few hours I couldn't get to sleep
For this old man gave me something to keep
For it wasn't something he gave me that was physical
Or was it an illusion that was nothing more than whimsical
He gave me a sense of direction in which path to choose
To throw caution into the wind with nothing to lose
Live life without any fear
Take a chance if you dare
Roll like a tumbleweed who has been given freedom
Let go of any burdens you don't need them
Live life like an adventure it should of been
Never let anyone tell you, you can't dream
Close your eyes and pretend your flying
Let the tears of happiness roll as if your crying
Tell the truth to yourself live the life you've been denying
Open up your heart and be yourself try to stop your lying
As the bus slowed and came to a stop
I gathered my stuff and my luggage from the top
I walked down the aisle and down the steps to the ground
I waited for the next bus to arrive heading east bound
As the bus pulled away there in the window
Was the wise old man wouldn't you know
He smiled at me with a familiar complexion
I smiled back as it was my own reflection
To this day I've never forgotten that old man
On a bus ride long ago my life I could finally understand

Was it a dream, or a spirit friend
who came to share wisdom to better live?
Whoever it was, he spoke helpful truth
Here’s hoping we take his advise in time & by it improve!
Excellent twist to find how to help yourself- by realistic reflections of the possible future we can make smarter changes in our decisions

Oh your a rare find, your words are exquisite and your a wordsmith the likes I’ve never seen
It shows I’m a weekend hacker yes it’s in these lessons I will hope to change the future although sometimes we are doomed to make the same mistakes over and over however being aware gives me the best chance to at least take a swing and try
