Kill or be killed

In school I was peer pressured into pretending to be

Someone I wasn't, hoping they'd all be fond of me

I have never been ashamed of who I am

I'd never trade the integrity of this man

In life there are bullies, takers and plain old users

There are sexists, bigots, racists and plain old losers

We get them in everyday life and in our work places

They are hidden amongst us all in these hordes of faces

I live and breath the directives of my cowboy creed

To do the right thing and assist people in need

To see the best of people and extend an olive branch

Giving the weak a voice to harbour them in my ranch

It felt like for years I was pretending to please

Until there wasn't a place to go except my knees

To see the error of my ways through different eyes

I unpacked me six shooters and took on these guys

In these prairies that harbour this old cowpoke

I may bend and tweak, but I stand like an oak

I devoted my life to stand against the grain

I found myself again through the ever changing rain

I stopped being used by deceiving friends

For the way I let myself down I made a mends

For being good hearted there's always a price

I swore from that day it wouldn't happen twice

For far too long I've sat back as they have taken

That day I did a favour and for myself, I did awaken

I took back the creed that was rightfully mine

It's written somewhere you have to be cruel to be kind

I scratch my head and wonder what took me so long

For me to finally see the path I'd taken was wrong

Maybe I always hoped they'd see the error of their ways

That all these tribulations was somehow just a faze

People will try to bully you and single you out

Creating a little monster we call self doubt

They're selfish and rude, not nice people at all

I was taught to be proud and always stand tall

They will try to weigh us down with a heavy load

My mentor installed in me one thing to take on this road

It was one thing to this day I'll never forget to remember

It burns inside this cowboy like a never ending ember

It's funny how we try to fit in with a certain group

So somehow we feel justified we are in the loop

These groups that we try to be apart of or belong

Just forget them as we have our own identity to prolong

They are not who we are, or what we stand for

It's time to saddle up and introduce a new law

They are no longer wanted guests in my prairie

These confidence rustlers I'll hunt down and bury

We are the ruler, the captain, the sheriff of our home town

We get to have the final say of who stays around

Lets clean up our prairies and take out the trash

These takers and yokels are like an unwanted rash

I got tired of being a certain person I tried to be

Lost my way I guess where I couldn't recognise me

It's time to change and adjust my sails for new winds

Let the breeze wash over me and take away my sins

These so called people wear two faces in a mirror

To look upon their own reflections would cause terror

They judge us before they know us and that ain't me

Not the man at all I was brought up to be

So join me in this posse there's always room for more

We'll drink whiskey and throw these bullies out the door

Across the great divide from Calgary to Texas

New beginnings, male or females I ain't sexist

We'll ride from town to town giving the poor riches

Campfire songs to cattle drives and washing me britches

Chasing these bullies into the Wild West

Where else have you all to be, I contest

So join this ole cowpoke who has no name

Adventures to the adventurous if you want fame

Wonderwall – not only is this an amazing poem, it contains one of the most important messages a person can learn: to accept who you are and stay true to yourself. Once we accept our differences, we can become the person we’re truly meant to be. It has taken me such a long time to learn this. When you try to be someone you’re not, or try to be with or around the wrong people, you just get nowhere. Excellent, wonderwall….we’re totally on the same wavelength here.. :-) p.s. judgemental people suck.

Arrrrhhh MA7 you humble me, your right on the money here, yes being around supposedly cool people when we are young watching them be bullies was not cool at all.
Judgemental people I’ve always hated, they judge you before they even know you but it’s them that ultimately lose in the end.!!!
Well it’s good to know there’s still people like yourself who fight for the good cause
I thank you with a tug of me brim always an honour!!

Yes indeed you got the touch wonderwall. Of a weary drifter who does stand tall. I knew it from the start. That of the run of the mill you weren’t a part. You are indeed a master off thought to word & word to thought. As well as an individual work of art. To us all a special enrichment you brought. That’s what this Black Bird takes away when wingin’ from your campfire. A lift to me wings that takes me that much more higher.
Exceptional Work of verse & rhyme in high order wonderwall. Top Draw for Sure.

Always an honour your words I read
Your the noblest of them all indeed
Like a handful here in this thoughts saloon
I’d be in awe to ride with from sun to moon
Your the top of the list I will say
It was all my honour meeting that day
      You inspire an ole cowpoke
I say with hand on heart no joke
      Tipping my brim once again
My honour to call you friend

within the soul two impulses war
which will dominate which will win
one does not want to be alone
the other says you are the only one unique
    one subsumes the soul
the other frees the immortal eternal
so in the end your choice gives
    either death or life
